I have moved to using more spore based probiotics in my practice as research has emerged that they truly have the ability to change the microbiome long term whereas regular probiotics help, but are less effective at creating long term change.  Here are some of the positives for spore based probiotics like Sporific.

 

  1. Enhance Microbial Diversity:
    • Spore probiotics can promote the diversity of the gut microbiota, contributing to a balanced and resilient microbial ecosystem.
  2. Competitive Exclusion of Pathogens:
    • By colonizing the gut, spore-forming bacteria can compete with pathogenic bacteria for resources and attachment sites, potentially reducing the growth of harmful bacteria.
  3. Modulation of Immune Response:
    • Spore probiotics might modulate the host’s immune response, promoting anti-inflammatory effects and supporting the immune system.
  4. Production of Short-Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs):
    • Once colonized, some spore-forming bacteria can ferment dietary fibers, producing beneficial SCFAs like butyrate, which provide energy to colon cells and have anti-inflammatory properties.
  5. Enhancement of the Gut Barrier:
    • They can enhance the integrity of the gut barrier, reducing the risk of pathogens and unwanted substances from entering the bloodstream.
  6. Promotion of Healthy Gut Environment:
    • They can contribute to maintaining an acidic environment in the colon, discouraging the overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria.
